Why are you seeking elective office?
I am running to unify our community. We have too much political rhetoric that does nothing but divide. We have more in common if we sit down and talk. We have the same goals, sometimes just different ways to get there. We can unite together regardless of part affiliation and accomplish more. I am running because I am tired of the excuses and failures to getting things done. State politics is local, it's the voice of the people. If something is important, we have a responsibility to have it addressed as a public servant regardless of my personal feelings. We need to unite, and we can't unite by saying I'm only beholden only one side.
The single most pressing issue facing the 8th District is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
High Cost of Living....we are spending more today than ever before. We have alot of our community who can't afford gas, groceries, and the costs of living are beyond inflated. We need to ease the burden of high taxes, give back to the community. We need to focus on incentives and look at the impact of affordable housing has on everyone but at the same time address the low income neighbors. We can't ignore the problems but we need to find solutions that will not negatively impact our financial wellbeing. We need solutions for today, and not keep worrying about long term future. Solve the problems today, we can then focus on the future. Common-sense solutions will include eliminating the grocery tax, supporting tax cuts where we have a surplus, encouraging public transportation credits, reducing gas inflation.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidate seeking this post?
I first moved to Northern Virginia in 2002. I have been a homeowner since 2015. I have worked as a public servant in the private sector for nearly 2 decades. I am dedicated to my community to make it better. Having local ties to the community, supporting small business, and long term resident shows my commitment. My opponent has had 2 years to make a impact and we need to see more. The biggest difference is ideology. I am committed to bipartisanship and finding common-sense solutions. I will call out my own party for the failures and will support good legislation on the other side of the aisle. I have committed to unifying instead of dividing. When my opponent has made public comments that she will be a Democrat who votes like a Democrat, that is simply wrong. I want a delegate who votes what's best for those in our district and our commonwealth. Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc, I will not omit others for difference of opinions. We will sit down, discuss and find solutions. That simply hasn't been done and I am committed to making the legislative process more open, transparent and bipartisan.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)?
Spoke a little bit to this in my previous answer, but it's really simple. She has left Republican and Independents out of the representation process. As a Delegate, we have to represent bipartisan solutions, whatever is best for our community. Not supporting the tax cuts, being against alot of common-sense solutions being proposed have negatively impact the financial burdens of day to day life! We don't have infrastructure to eliminate gas powered cars and go 100 percent electric by any date. Huge financial impacts and most in the community can not afford drastic upgrades. Hot days, cold days, etc have huge impacts. In Virginia not too long ago, we had a snow emergency under the previous administration that caused cars to be stuck on the roads. Gas powered cars were able to get gas, carry extra with them and remain warm and safe. Those electric vehicles had no solutions than be abandoned and out Virginians at risk. We can support incentives for more green choices for those who can afford it and support public transportation which we have a great system to offset some of these problems. Failure to think through legislation and writing bills on impulse, negatively hurts our community and Virginians.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
We need to support Parental involvement in your child's education. The school board and the government should be open and transparent, work with teachers to teach. No one knows your child better than you, the parent. There are alot of situations such as autism that affect learning and we need to ensure they are protected. In addition to make sure left and right ideology is left out of the curriculum. Teach the good ,bad and how we can learn from the past. This is all impacts we can have at the state level to eliminate the grey areas. All of our past and history should be taught, with no limits.
Support Law Enforcement to make sure they have the support and training to ensure they can enforce the laws on the book. I received the endorsement of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association and we have to do what we can to protect our community and make it safer. We have seen an uptick in crime and we have to find ways to reduce and enforce the laws. Fentanyl crisis is in our backyard in Herndon with recent drug busts coming to light recently. We need to keep the drugs out of Virginia.
We need to address the mental health crisis. We need to support funding to support this growing issue.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have been a community advocate my whole life. I have always called out the good and the bad with my friends, workplace, and political party to ensure we don't lose sight of the goal, working together. I have served the public my whole life, handle stressful situations, working with different people daily and interacting with hundreds per day. I do not take things personally and I do have the mental stamina to endure long hours, erratic schedules and focus on the end goal.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
We have more in common than things that divide us. Think of everyone as a human, mom, dad, grandma, and it will change the way you think of others.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I would to earn your vote. I am committed to being a representative of bipartisan solutions and encouraging your input. I want to standup for you, our community and make Virginia a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Let's do this journey together, unified as Virginians, and not divided.
