Interested in a private, “high-tech” education for your child, right here in Herndon? Check out Cortona Academy’s high-tech informational open house tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. on the campus, located at 13505 Dulles Technology Drive, Suite 3. Attendees will get to see a demonstration of the school’s 3-D printers in action, and learn about the school’s programs in modern engineering, art, and rapid prototyping. Get informed before the next election! Next Wednesday, Aug. 14, come to a meet-and-greet with Jennifer Boysko, the Democratic candidate running for Virginia Delegate to the 86th District, which covers Herndon. Boysko will face current Delegate Tom Rust in the November election. Political science professor Kimberly Cowell-Meyers will host the informal meet-and-greet at her home, during which Boysko will discuss issues facing women in Virginia and answer questions about her campaign. RSVP by e-mail to Henry Jackson at henry@jenniferboysko.com for the exact address.

Herndon swimmers – did you know the Herndon Swim League has a scholarship program? Any swimmer in the League who has been a member for at least one year, has a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and is a graduating senior, can apply. To learn more about the scholarship program and how to apply, read the League’s announcement on Herndon Patch.

 

Parents and kids - are you looking for one last really fun thing to do before summer's end? Why not try out one of the many choreography camps at Classical Ballet Theatre (CBT) in Herndon? Placed according to age and experience, students can enjoy learning selections from classical ballet productions like the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty ballets.  Week-long camp sessions are coming up the weeks of Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. Congregation Beth Emeth in Herndon has a new rabbi! So, mark your calendars for a community barbecue and Shabbat services under the stars and meet the new rabbi, Michelle Goldsmith. The festivities get underway next Friday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m., with services beginning at 7:30 p.m. Prospective members are welcome guests.
