Richard “Rip” Sullivan Jr., a lawyer with the Reed Smith law firm, has been appointed as the Dranesville representative to the Fairfax County Park Authority Board. Dranesville Supervisor John Foust nominated Sullivan to fill the vacancy created on the Park Board when longtime Dranesville District representative and Park Authority Vice Chairman Kevin Fay resigned. Sullivan’s appointment is effective immediately. “Rip has a great track record of dedicated and effective public service in our community,” said Supervisor Foust. “This experience will prove invaluable as he works with the community and me on issues already underway in this district, as well as new park initiatives.” Sullivan’s community service includes: the McLean Community Foundation, where he served as chairman; the Dranesville Budget Task Force, where he served as chairman for four years; the Fairfax County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, where he served as vice-chair; the Fairfax Transportation Advisory Commission; and the Fairfax Consumer Protection Commission. He was also appointed by the governor to the Virginia Commission on Civics Education in 2006.
