He defeated Patriot’s Adam Tucker 3-1 in a sudden victory overtime thriller, and he followed that performance with a hard-fought 11-10 decision over Battlefield’s Nick Kash.
Poulson then won a tight 5-3 overtime win over Lake Braddock’s Royce Renzi to secure a spot on the podium. In the match to qualify for the state tournament, he lost to South County’s Francis Ahenkora in a tough 7-0 match.

He concluded the tournament with a loss in the 5th place match to James Fisher of Fairfax.
Although qualifying nine wrestlers, Herndon had a disappointing tournament, scoring only 16 team points and finishing in 25th place out of 27 teams.
“Obviously, we’re not too happy with the way we finished the year. We really thought we could get 3-4 guys through to the state tournament. But to only have one placer from this group is really disappointing,” said Head Coach Mike Gonzales.
