Record-Setting Weather Likely In VA This Weekend: Latest Forecast

Potentially record-breaking temperatures are predicted this weekend in Northern Virginia and the D.C. capital region. Here's the latest.

VIRGINIA — Potentially record-breaking temperatures are predicted this weekend in Northern Virginia. The fleeting heat will come to a quick end by the start of the next work week, though.

AccuWeather forecasters say the Washington, D.C., region could see high temperatures climb into the mid-80s on Friday and Saturday.

The last time Washington, D.C., recorded a high temperature in the 80s during the last week of October was in 1960, over 60 years ago, according to Accuweather data.

"Skies should stay fairly sunny most of the day," the Capital Weather Gang said about Saturday's weather. "High temperatures again eye record and near-record levels, in the upper 70s to mid-80s."

Weekend weather is expected to be sunny or mostly sunny and warm, according to Accuweather's forecast. The warm air will begin to cool at the beginning of the week, however.

By Tuesday, which is Halloween, mild weather will begin to spread across the region with daytime highs reaching into the low 70s across Virginia, with temperatures dropping to the mid-40s in the evening hours.

The warm air will not linger, however.

"Across the Great Lakes and Midwest cities, the cold air mass on track to arrive early next week may put an end to the growing season, with many spots like Chicago and Detroit falling a few degrees below the freezing mark," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist David Dombek said.

The Washington, D.C., region can expect cooler temperatures Saturday night, under mostly cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service.

The area will begin to see precipitation moving in on Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of showers. The wet weather will continue through Tuesday night.

By Tuesday, which is Halloween, chilly weather will begin to spread across the region, with daytime highs reaching into the low- to mid-50s in DC and Northern Virginia.

By Halloween night, temperatures could dip into the upper 30s in the DC area.

"Chilly, breezy 40s may start our Tuesday. Shower chances, clouds, and perhaps waves of light rain may dominate the day," the Capital Weather Gang said. "High temperatures could get stuck in the upper 40s to mid-50s if we see as many persistent clouds as it currently appears."
