Salim, Bulova, Palchik, Frisch Elected By Providence District Voters
Voters in the Providence District chose a slate of Democrats to represent them locally and in the Virginia General Assembly.

FAIRFAX, VA — Voters in Fairfax, Falls Church and the City of Fairfax elected a slate of Democrats on Tuesday to represent them in the Virginia General Assembly, as well as on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the School Board.
Democrat Saddam Salim defeated Republican challenger Ken Reid in the race to determine who would serve as the District 37 member in the Virginia Senate.
"I want to thank everyone who worked so hard on this campaign," Salim said, in a statement. "I set out ten months ago to win this seat because I felt strongly that the people in this district deserved better — people deserved a strong Democratic voice on reproductive rights, gun violence prevention, affordable housing, healthcare, education and all the other issues we value. People should always be sure that I will stand up for the issues they care about — I will fight in the Senate for the people of my district. Thank you for believing in me and I can't wait to get to work for the people down in Richmond!"

Salim, who defeated incumbent Sen. Chap Petersen (D) in the Democratic Party primary in June, became the first Bengladeshi-American State Senator in Virginia's history.
"Congratulations on your victory and mazel tov, as we say in Hebrew," Reid said, in an email he sent to Salim. "Despite my best efforts, voters still wanted a 'D' not an 'R.' It's a shame voters no longer vote for candidates based on results and ideas, just national partisan issues, but it doesn't mean you have to govern that way as a state senator."

Del. David Bulova (D) defeated Republican challenger Almira Mohammed in the race to see who would represent Fairfax, Fairfax City and Oakton in the House of Delegates in the new 11th District. Before redistricting, Bulova represented the 37th District.
In the Providence District, incumbent Supervisor Dalia Palchik defeated Republican challenger Brian Murphy.
“I am so proud to have the opportunity to continue representing the Providence District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors," Palchik said, in an email on Wednsday. "Together with our volunteers and supporters, we were able to deliver a decisive win to the Providence District residents. This community made it clear that we want four more years of progress, additional affordable housing, thoughtful transit-oriented development, and a focus on equitable community health. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to help our Providence community and Fairfax County to thrive.”
Karl Frisch, the Providence District's school board member, was re-elected Tuesday, defeating newcomer Tony Sabido. Although school board members run as independents, Frisch was endorsed by the Fairfax County Democratic Committee.
“Tonight’s results show people are fed up with the political attacks targeting our world-class public schools and teachers,” Frisch said, at the County Democrats election night party. “Fairfax County residents have made it clear: they want safe and inclusive schools with exceptional educators and equitable access to the opportunities every student needs to succeed. I am grateful to have earned voters’ trust for another term and eager to advance these priorities with my new colleagues.”

The following is the full text of the letter Ken Reid sent to Saddam Salim:
Dear Saddam
I telephoned the 571 number on your web site last night to congratulate you on your victory but decided to send an email today because I am unsure if that went through.
Congratulations on your victory and mazel tov, as we say in Hebrew. Despite my best efforts, voters still wanted a "D" not an "R" It's a shame voters no longer vote for candidates based on results and ideas, just national partisan issues, but it doesn't mean you have to govern that way as a state senator.
I wish you the best in Richmond and you will be in the majority which makes it a lot better, but hope the Democrats who now control the General Assembly will chart a pragmatic course and not go overboard on wild extreme actions. I hope for bipartisan cooperation from Republicans, too, but I can only hope for that.
A lot has to be done for Fairfax County since we've lost a lot of experienced people with seniority (like Eileen Filler Corn and Dick Saslaw and Chap Petersen). It means the committees of the House and Senate will be controlled by folks downstate, who often do not have Northern Virginia's best interests in mind.
Please pay very close attention to the legislative agendas for the County Supervisors and the cities in our district and Vienna.
I also had some ideas for legislation on my web site you may want to look at. Most of it is not partisan, like reforming the composite index. Www.kenreid.org/legislation
I also hope Chap Petersen will sit down with you and guide you on a transition. It's the least he can do. Please contact him.
Take care, good luck, and Shalom.
Thank you and kind regards!
Ken Reid
