Save Time and Money by Remodeling Multiple Rooms at Once
Have you been considering a multi-room remodel?
When many of our clients embark on remodeling projects, they have a vision of renovations to many different parts of their homes – a checklist of changes they plan to make over the course of three or four years.
A client might look to finish the basement now, then remodel the master bathroom a year later, then turn their attention to the kitchen a year after that.
It seems like a common-sense way to work through changes to your home, but here’s a secret: we usually advise our clients that there is a more cost-effective way. By taking on multiple remodeling projects at the same time, homeowners can save a significant amount of money.

Parallel projects
Why is it cheaper to run multiple remodeling projects in parallel? It comes down to the fixed costs associated with any project, regardless of its size. When you start a new remodel, you will face costs including permits, inspection cycles, labor time for familiarization with the site and securing permits, construction debris receptacles, portable toilets, dust and floor protection, and more.

Every time you start a project, you’ll need new permits. Every time you start a project, you’ll need new debris receptacles. The list goes on. But by taking on several projects at once, you consolidate these costs. And that can add up to considerable savings. But that’s not the only way costs are reduced.
In fact, the biggest source of savings is the ability to perform labor in parallel throughout multiple parts of the home. On a given day, you might have a project leader overseeing the installation of hardwood floors while workers accomplished tasks in the kitchen and the bathroom. These individuals can pool their resources and work together to complete the projects in an efficient, coordinated way.
Serious savings
How much money can you save with this approach? More than you might think. On one recent project, my team remodeled a kitchen, two bathrooms, a dining room, and a powder room all at once. Taken separately, these projects would have added up to around $200,000 total. But since we were able to work on all of these projects at once, the total cost fell to around $180,000.
$20,000 represents major savings – enough to take a long vacation while the remodeling is going on!
Which brings us to another key area of savings: time. It might take twelve weeks total to carry out three separate projects, but when those projects are consolidated they could be condensed to eight or nine weeks. Ultimately, you will spend less time with remodeling happening in your house, and you will be able to enjoy your new home – in full – more quickly.
