Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For NoVA, DC

VIRGINIA — National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday afternoon for parts of Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. The warning is in effect until 5:15 p.m.

Earlier, severe thunderstorms were detected near Loudoun County at 4:31 p.m., moving east at 30 mph, according to NWS. Residents can expect wind gusts of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

The severe thunderstorm watch includes:

Washington, D.C

Maryland: Rockville, Potomac, Bethesda,

Virginia: Reston, Leesburg, South Riding, Herndon, Fairfax, Vienna, Broadlands, Landsown, Lowes Island, Brambleton, Mantua, Poolesville, Dulles International Airport, Ashburn, Oakton, Sterling and North Potomac.

High winds can bring some trees, heavy branches, and utility lines down, leading to power outages and blocked roads.
