Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For NoVA, DC: Weather Alert
Severe thunderstorms are expected to move through the Washington, D.C. area and parts of Northern Virginia into Monday evening.
VIRGINIA, VA — National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch Monday afternoon for the national capital region, including Northern Virginia and parts of suburban Maryland.
The watch is in effect until 10 p.m., for Washington, D.C., central and northeastern Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
The severe thunderstorm watch covers the following localities in northern Virginia: Arlington, Alexandria City, Fairfax City, Falls Church City, Manassas City, Manassas Park, Culpeper, Fairfax County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, and Stafford County.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 4 p.m., followed by showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 4-5 p.m. according to the NWS forecast. Thunderstorms likely after 5 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. High near 94. Heat index values as high as 102. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts are expected to be between a quarter and half of an inch.
Tonight, expect a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m., according to NWS. The skies will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
