Two Hornets Place At Ray Oliver Tournament
Elston takes sixth place at 145 pounds. Poulson takes third at 195 pounds.

Owings Mill, Md – Two members of the Herndon wrestling team placed in their weight lcass at the 43rd Annual Raymond B. Oliver tournament on Saturday with H.T. Elston finishing sixth and Jonah Poulson taking third in their respective weight classes.
Herndon finished 14th out of 18 teams in the event that featured some of the top prep programs in the nation which featured several All-Americans and state champions from Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Delaware.

Poulson took third place at 195 pounds in the event, rallying after falling in the quarterfinals to Colin Adams of Caravel Academy (DE). After losing by pin to Adams in the quarterfinals, Poulson battled back in the consolation bracket with a 6-4 decision of Adam Taylor of Archbishop Spalding, MD and a win over Jacob Brummett of Gilman Prep, MD to advance to the consolation finals. Poulson was able to avenge an earlier loss to Adams with a dominating 6-0 decision to secure third place.
Elston finished in sixth place at 145 pounds getting pinned in the second period by Gilman Prep’s Ben Gushue. Elston lost his first round match to Smyrna’s (DE) Nolan Rutherford 11-4, before picking up three straight pins before losing in the consolation semi-finals to reach the fifth place bout. Elston pinned Ceasar Rodney’s (DE) Tanner Howe, Bishop McNamara’s Albert Summer, and Chantilly’s Khalid Shafa, before losing by major decision 13-4 to Hayfield’s Xavery Washington.

Herndon will return to action this weekend, participating in the Mad Mats tournament at Magruder High School in Rockville on Dec 11-12.
