Warm Weather Stays as New School Year Begins: NWS Forecasts

With Labor Day now officially behind us, most consider this week the first unofficial week of the fall.

However, the weather must have missed the memo.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures will soar into the 90s each of the next two days, and summer thunderstorms will pass through Northern Virginia on Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures will drop into the low-80s by the end of the week, and are expected to continue to drop through the weekend and into next week.

Tuesday: Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 92. South wind 3 to 8 mph.

Tuesday night: Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 89. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.
