What's Open, Closed On MLK Jr. Day 2023 In Herndon

HERNDON, VA — Residents and businesses in Herndon will honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16.
Reston Community Center will celebrate its 38th annual Reston Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration with a variety of events the entire weekend, including a keynote address delivered by The New York Times bestselling author Heather McGhee at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16 at RCC Hunters Woods. More information about the celebration is available online.
As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation and other services in the Town of Herndon and across Fairfax County.

Town of Herndon Fairfax County government offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court and General District Court will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Post offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library branches will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Animal Shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Metrorail: On Monday, Jan. 16, Metrorail will run regular scheduled weekday service.
Metrobus: On Monday, Jan. 16, Metrobus will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule.
Fairfax Connector: On Monday, Jan. 16, Fairfax Connector will run holiday weekday service. All routes operate regular weekday service except Routes 231, 232, 335, 393, 394, 395, 396, 432, 461, 494, 495, 599, 624, 634, 697, 698, 699, 715, 722, 724 834 and 835, which will not operate. Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are open regular hours on Monday, Jan. 16.
Herndon Community Center: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
Bready Park Tennis Center: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
Herndon Centennial Golf Course: Open on Monday, Jan. 16, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Parks: Most Fairfax County parks, including the Riverbend Park, will be open Monday, Jan. 16. Colvin Run Mill will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
Trash and recycling: In the Town of Herndon, recycling usually collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday. There will be no change in the trash and recycling collection schedules on Monday, Jan. 16 for county trash customers. Residents with private collection should contact their haulers.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will both be open on Monday, Jan. 16.
