Annual Occoquan River Fall Cleanup on Oct. 13

Join the Friends of the Occoquan as they work to clean the Occoquan Watershed.

This Saturday, the annual Occoquan River Fall Cleanup will likely bring hundreds of volunteers to the river to clear the area of trash.

The cleanup runs from 9 a.m. to noon, and volunteers can sign in and pick up their gloves and bags at the Occoquan Town Hall at 314 Mill St.

The cleanup brought in several tons of trash in the spring, as volunteers combed over 20 miles of the river. Teams worked in kayaks and canoes, and on foot.

Deer Park Water, Nestea Ice Tea and Gatorade bottles formed much of the trash, but tires, a swimming pool, car batteries, and a suitcase were also part of the finds.
