Feeding your dog for a long, healthy life

Feeding your adult dog to promote his or her long-term health and well-being means knowing what your dog’s specific needs are and following them carefully.

Your dog’s calorie needs depend on his or her breed, activity level, age, and health conditions. A working or outdoor dog that normally gets a lot of exercise will need more calories than a sedentary house dog. (See our article about helping your dog get more exercise! If you have a dog that has recently matured from puppy-hood, then you will need to revamp your menu for feeding your adult dog. If your dog has entered the golden years (past age 7), his or her caloric needs will also change.
