UPDATE: Fire Blazes Through Lake Ridge Townhouse

A townhouse on Caledonia Circle caught fire this afternoon, leaving the inside blackened, and three occupants injured.

Update, 5:14 p.m.: A total of three people were injured in the fire. One was a resident trapped in their room in the upper floor of the building, and two out of the other four residents in the home at the time were injured while trying to rescue her, Battalion Chief Joe Robertson told Lake Ridge Patch.

"The fire department came and rescued the trapped person," Robertson said. "We sent her to a regional hospital."

Of the other two that were injured, one was sent to a regional hospital and one was sent to a local hospital. Robertson could not comment on the extent or kind of injuries the residents sustained, since that is medical information.

Eight people were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross will provide shelter for them.

As for whether the fire started in the attic, "we're still conducting the investigation. We haven't come to a conclusion," Robertson said.

A bystander told Lake Ridge Patch that he had talked to the girlfriend of one of the residents of the townhouse and that the resident's grandmother was in the top floor when the house caught fire.

"She's not ok," the bystander said. He was unwilling to give his name.

PWC Police Officer Jonathan Perok told Lake Ridge Patch that at least two occupants of the house had had to be flown out due to their injuries, and that he had been told the house's attic was what caught fire first. It was unclear whether the injuries were smoke or burn related.

From the backyard, a mound of possessions was clearly visible against a back window.
