DAR Gives $7,500 Grant to Oatlands for Plaster Repairs

The preservation group offers such grants to properties of historic significance.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) announced this past week that the organization will donate $7,500 to Oatlands for plaster repairs at the mansion south Leesburg. Funding for the project was made possible through the sponsorship of Ketoctin Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in Leesburg.

Oatlands – a 360-acre self-supporting National Trust Historic Site, one of only 27 National Trust Historic Sites in the country – features a stunning landscape, gardens, the 1804 mansion and other structures, including the Oatlands greenhouse, the second oldest greenhouse in the nation. Oatlands has offered daily tours since 1966.

“We are thrilled to be receiving such a generous donation from the DAR,” said Andrea McGimsey, Oatlands’ executive director. “We realize that our grant is just one of many that they made throughout the year to preserve our nation’s history. We are honored and humbled to be a grant recipient and we are eager to begin the plaster repair project.”
