Former Leesburg Resident Raises Awareness With ‘Wounded Walk’

A long journey nearing its end for two U.S. Marines who are walking across the country to raise awareness of the needs of veterans wounded in all conflicts will pass through Leesburg this weekend.

Loudoun County High School graduate Adam Shatarsky, now a resident of Idaho, will pass back through his hometown this Saturday, Oct. 5, on the final leg of “The Wounded Walk,” which began in June at Camp Pendleton, CA and ends this month in Washington, DC.

At 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Shatarsky and his walking buddy, Chris Senopole, will walk from Ida Lee Park south along King Street to the Loudoun County Courthouse.

Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd and other officials will welcome Shatarsky and Senopole at the courthouse and hold a ceremony proclaiming Oct. 5 Wounded Walk Day in Leesburg.

Residents are invited to cheer the men on along the walk or join them at the courthouse.

North King Street will be closed between Battlefield Parkway and Cornwall Street from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to make way for the walk. King Street from Cornwall to Loudoun streets, and Market Street from Wirt to Church streets, will remain closed until the ceremony ends; probably until around 11:30 a.m.
