LEESBURG, VA —The Catty Corner Cafe is now open on East Market Street in Leesburg. The business held its grand opening on Friday.

The first floor of the cafe functions as a traditional coffee shop with hot beverages alongside sweets and pastries. The second floor has a rotating cast of more than a dozen cats who are available for adoption through the Humane Society of Loudoun County.

Heather Donahue said she was inspired to start her own cafe after visiting Meow's Corner in Sterling. "I’m a huge cat lover and thought it would be an amazing thing for me to do in Leesburg," Donahue told Patch. "I love the town of Leesburg, it’s full of charming shops and restaurants. I felt it would be a great fit for visitors and local residents."

At any time, the cafe will host between 15 and 18 cats from the Humane Society of Loudoun County. Donahue said the cafe will act as a foster home for rescues as they find their forever homes.

Jaunita Easton is the president of the Humane Society of Loudoun County. "We are so excited to partner with the Catty Corner Cafe," Easton told Patch. "Since HSLC is an all-volunteer, foster-based non-profit organization that does not operate a physical shelter, the cafe allows us to greatly expand our ability to rescue and rehome more cats."

Since the cafe's grand opening on Friday, Donahue said the cafe has had a surprising turnout.

"We have had a wonderful lot of customers come out so far," Donahue said. "I’m pleasantly surprised on the amount of people who are just happy to come and play with the kitties in the cat lounge. They have been so supportive of our mission and wish us much success."

The Humane Society of Loudoun County does not have their own adoption space, so the cafe offers a unique opportunity for visitors to spend one-on-one time with adoptable cats.

"We are so thrilled to bring a cozy space to our customers but also provide a safe place for cats who are looking for a forever home. It’s wonderful opportunity for people to come and see these beautiful animals in a relaxed environment," Donahue said. "They can actually see the true personalities of each cat and hopefully fall in love with them enough to want to give them a second chance at a loving home."

The Catty Corner Cafe is open for six days each week; the facility is closed on Wednesdays. On Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday the cafe is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
