Leesburg Man Critically Injured in Rt. 28 Motorcycle Crash
Motorcycle crashes jumped by more than 30 percent in Fairfax County last year.

A Leesburg man suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after he lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle on Route 28.
Around 10 p.m., the 26-year-old was driving his 2006 Suzuki in the left lane of Route 28 near McLearn Road, when he lost control for an unknown reason. He crashed into the jersey wall and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to Fairfax County Police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell.
First responders flew the motorcyclist, who sustained life-threatening injuries, to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Crash reconstruction detectives responded to the scene and a preliminary investigation suggests that speed was a factor in the crash. Caldwell said that police are not sure if there were any other vehicles involved, and detectives continue to investigate the possibility.
Police diverted traffic on Route 28 northbound to Centreville Road, Frying Pan Park Road, and back to 28 for several hours during the investigation.

The crash is part of a troubling trend, as the number of motorcycle crashes in Fairfax County rises. The number of motorcycle crashes jumped by more than 30 percent in Fairfax County from 2011 to 2012.
