Leesburg Mayor Dave Butler to Kickoff Campaign at K2M

Mayor Dave Butler will officially kick off his campaign for town mayor during a special event at K2M Group Holdings, Inc.

From the Town of Leesburg, VA:

Mayor Dave Butler will officially kick off his campaign for town mayor during a special event at K2M Group Holdings, Inc., one of Leesburg’s largest businesses and a global pioneer in spinal surgery equipment and techniques. The event will be held on July 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature local bands who will take turns performing for those in attendance.

In April, Butler announced that he would continue to seek the town’s top leadership position after he was appointed mayor on February 8 to fill the vacancy created by former Mayor Kristen Umstattd's election to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The term expires Dec. 31.

Since being sworn in, Butler has worked closely with council and staff to approve a balanced budget and capital plan on time. A task force was created with the sheriff's department to find efficiencies and save taxpayer's money, the county's courthouse expansion was approved, and limits on having storage units in front yards have also been set in place.

Butler has also taken the unprecedented step to reach out to the Leesburg community through weekly video updates that he shares to his Facebook page and YouTube channel once a week as well as establishing Mayor's Hours at Town Hall.

“My main goal was to be more accessible,” Butler said. “With the Mayor's Hours, any resident can come into Town Hall and meet with the mayor, no appointment needed.”

Butler will join nine other candidates who are seeking a town council position. Kevin Wright, who served on the Leesburg Town Council for eight years, and Kelly Burk, who was re-elected to the council in 2012, will also be running for mayor.

“If they like the direction that the town is going in, including the new improvements they've seen, then I welcome their support to continue to move the town forward and improve their quality of life,” Butler said.

Prior to his election to Town Council in 2008, Butler was a member of the Leesburg Planning Commission, Utility Rate Advisory Committee and Standing Residential Traffic Committee. He also chaired the SE/SW Trails Committee during the summer and fall of 2006. Butler currently serves on, or is Council's liaison to the Leesburg Tree Commission, Northern Virginia Regional Commission, and the Virginia Municipal League’s Environmental Quality Committee. He served as Vice Mayor from January 2013 to January 2015.
