Here are the top three stories today in Leesburg:
- The Leesburg Town Council said the speed limit on downtown historic roads will change to 20 mph within two to three months. The council voted to reduce the limit by five mph due to a recommendation from a study that suggested the lower speed limits will decrease property damage and the severity of injuries in the event of a vehicle collision. (WTOP)
- Federal officials are investigating the death of a passenger on a plane flying to Leesburg Executive Airport. A Bombardier Challenger 300 took off from Dillant-Hopkins Airport in Keene with three passengers and two crew members on Mar. 3. According to reports, "severe" turbulence caused the death of one of the passengers. (WMUR)
- On Mar. 3, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares filed a motion for a subpoena for the release of the Loudoun County Public Schools' independent investigation of the school sexual assaults. Parents and the public have been asking for the release of the internal report to see how the school board and the Superintendent handled the 2021 school sexual assaults. But former LCPS Superintendent Scott Ziegler and new interim Superintendent Daniel Smith have refused to release them. The public will learn how much the school officials knew about the assaults if the subpoena is granted and the report is released. (ABC 7)
