Bank Robbery Suspect Dies After Shooting At Leesburg Walmart: Update

Officials late Tuesday identified a man fatally shot at a Leesburg Walmart. He was the suspect in an attempted bank robbery and bomb threat.

LEESBURG, VA — A man fatally shot by authorities at a Leesburg Walmart was identified Tuesday evening as a Sterling resident. He was also the suspect in an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America at Dulles Crossing and bomb threat a day earlier, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's office.

Conner Peltzer, 30, was shot Tuesday morning by a Loudoun County deputy sheriff while officers were attempting to apprehend him, a news release said.

At 11:39 a.m. Tuesday, Loudoun County detectives, deputies, and special agents from the FBI located Peltzer in the Walmart parking lot. As deputies approached the vehicle, the suspect got out of the vehicle with a firearm, a news release from the sheriff's office said.

Deputies fired on the suspect and medical aid was immediately provided. Peltzer was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspect was under surveillance by Loudoun detectives and the FBI, who were attempting to apprehend him, authorities said.

During the attempted bank robbery at 45470 Dulles Crossing Plaza, "The suspect threatened the use of explosives," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "After a thorough search of the building and the surrounding area, the area (was) deemed safe."

Both incidents remain under investigation.

The shooting will be investigated by LCSO Internal Affairs, as is standard practice when a deputy is involved in a shooting.
