Not Up for ‘Planes’ the Movie? Check Out Some Real Planes in Leesburg Sept. 28
The annual Leesburg Airshow provides opportunities to see live stunts, skydiving, wing walking and more.

There are plenty of ways to catch the movie Planes nearby, but the animated movie might not be for everyone. For some people, the real thing is much more exciting. Those in that category just may want to mark their calendars for the fourth annual Leesburg Airshow Sept. 28.
Get a close up look of experimental and antique aircraft on the ground, and then watch skydivers, wing walkers and stunt pilots perform throughout the day.
The show runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Leesburg Executive Airport, 1001 Sycolin Road SE.

Display aircraft will include a DC-3 and L-39 Albatros as well as many personal recreation planes. There will also be a car show sponsored by Star Buick GMC Truck featuring classic and custom cruisers alongside the aircraft. Other aviation-related displays and a range of food vendors will be at the show as well.
Aerobatic and wing walking performances begin at 1 p.m, with skydiving by the Flying Circus, a thrills by Scott “Scooter” Yoak in his P-51 Mustang “Quicksilver,” Kevin Russo in his T-6 and Greg Connell in his Pitts. Nationally acclaimed air show announcer Hugh Oldham will narrate the event.

“Our annual airshows present tremendous opportunities for the town, our citizens, and our business community,” said Dennis Boykin, chair of the Leesburg Executive Airport Commission. Boykin said he event provides “a great showcase for airport improvements and … promoting good relations with the citizens who live near the field.”
It also provides a way to show the community the importance of the airport for job creation and economic development, he said.
Admission to the Leesburg Airshow is free. Free satellite parking can be found at the Sycolin Road Park & Ride Commuter Lot just south of the airport, at Heritage High School, 520 Evergeen Mill Road, and off Miller Drive. Complimentary shuttles will run continuously from 10:45 a.m. to 4:30 pm.
