Remember September 11 on Leesburg Town Green

Eleven years after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks,  the Town of Leesburg will honor lives lost during a remembrance ceremony on the Town Green, part of a nationwide "Day of Service and Remembrance" that charges citizens with volunteering or donating time or goods as a way to commemorate the day.

The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Green (25 West Market Street).

For those who want a more private, personal tribute, the Town of Leesburg said the Freedom Memorial at Freedom Park off of Tolbert Lane will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This year's annual Sept. 11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride passed through the county several weeks early. (See photo galleries from and ).

Both of Tuesday's events are "free, open to the public, and will be held rain or shine," the town said.

A block of West Market Street will be closed from the start of the ceremony until about 7:15 p.m. 

Freedom Park is located at 101 Colonel Grenata Cir SE, off of Tolbert Lane.
