Warn Granny! Scammer Requests Bail Money for 'Arrested Grandson'
A Round Hill woman fell victim to a phone scam Tuesday when a caller claimed her grandson had been arrested and required bail money.
A Round HIll woman received a call Tuesday from a person claiming her grandson had been arrested in New Jersey. The caller advised the victim to wire money to the Dominican Republic in order for her grandson to be released.
The victim later received a second call from a person claiming to be from a public defender’s office. The caller requested additional money to be wired and the victim complied with the request. The victim later learned the call was a cam, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The incidents were reported Thursday, July 29 at 9 a.m. from the 16500 block of Paloma Circle in Round Hill.
