Lorton Twins Sign Scholarships
Will continue their athletic and academic careers together
Lorton twins and Hayfield softball players Sam and Megan Perry-Shifflett signed scholarships yesterday to attend Virginia Intermont College in the Fall of 2011.
Virginia Intermont’s Head Coach Eric Senter first became aware of the twins last year when he saw video of them playing on their travel teams. “They’re exceptional athletes and they’ll make an immediate impact in our program,” Senter said.
The twins were recruited by other schools and were open to the possibility of attending college separately, but a trip to Virginia Intermont’s campus made their decision easy.

Megan said, ”We loved the school and hanging out with the girls.” Sam, nearly finishing her sister’s sentences said, “They accepted us immediately.”
The feeling was mutual according to Senter. “After they (the Perry-Shifflett twins) visited the school my team was like, ‘Coach, you have to sign them.’”

Sam is expected to play catcher and third base while Megan will play in the middle infield.
This was Senter’s first venture into Northern Virginia in pursuit of athletes for the NAIA school located on the Virginia-Tennessee border, and he expects to be back. “There’s a lot of talent up here,” he said.
Before beginning their college careers, Megan and Sam have the 2011 season for Hayfield, which begins on Monday against Falls Church.
“We’re excited,” Sam said. “We’re a small team with only 10 girls, but I think we’re solid.”
