Murder Investigation Update in Lorton

Retired World Bank economist was found with gunshot wounds late at night outside his home and died a short time later.

LORTON, VA -- Fairfax County Police Major Crimes Division detectives continue their investigation into the murder of Johan De Leede, police announced Wednesday.

On Friday, March 11, shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to 6017 River Drive for a report of an unresponsive man. They located De Leede inside the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers rendered first aid until rescue transported him to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

De Leede, 83 at the time of his death, was retired from the World Bank where he worked as an economist.

The preliminary investigation determined that De Leede was inside the residence when the shooting occurred. Police department personnel have increased their presence in and around the area since the time of the homicide.

The latest canvass of the area was conducted during the evening hours of Tuesday, March 29. Another canvass is planned for Wednesday, March 30, again during evening hours.

In addition, a community meeting is being planned and coordinated for the near future, police said. The date, time and location will be announced once it has been established. Until then, the residence of the Hallowing Point community and surrounding areas; friends, neighbors, associates and acquaintances, are strongly encouraged to contact the police department if you have any information about this case, police said.
