US Troops Kill Osama Bin Laden; Belvoir Increases Security

World's most wanted man is dead, taken in Pakistan

President Barack Obama announced in a statement that the United States military killed Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaida terrorist network and the man wanted in connection with the attacks on US soil on September 11. 2001 which claimed nearly 3,000 lives. The President said he ordered the strike this morning on Bin Laden, who was in the city of Abbottabad in northwest Pakistan.

As a result of the announcement, Fort Belvoir and all military installations have increased precautions by raising the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) "Bravo." Commuters should allow extra time, especially during the morning hours, when accessing Fort Belvoir and should have ID ready. Citizens should also report suspicious activity to the MP Desk at (703) 806-3104. FP Condition "Bravo" means there is increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity.

"But (Bin Laden's) death doesn’t mark the end of our efforts. We must and will remain vigilant at home and abroad," the President said in his speech.

In his speech, the President thanked the intelligence community, who secured leads on bin Laden's location in August. He also said that this fight was never about Islam.

“The US is not – and never will be – at war with Islam … Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer of Muslims," he said.

 "Justice has been done," Obama said.
