Pedestrian Dies After Getting Hit By SUV On Lorton Street: Police
The driver of the SUV left the crash scene but returned later, "upon observing the damage to the vehicle," Fairfax County Police said.

LORTON, VA — A Lorton woman died Wednesday morning after being struck by an SUV Tuesday afternoon while she was trying to walk across Lorton Station Boulevard near Old Beech Court, according to Fairfax County Police.
Helen Bahta Oukubazghi, 52, was taken to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening after the crash, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, and died from her injuries early Wednesday morning, police said.
Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the fatal crash. As Oukubazghi was crossing Lorton Station Boulevard, the driver of a black 2015 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling south on Lorton Station Boulevard and struck Oukubazghi in the roadway.

The driver of the SUV left the scene but returned a short while later, “upon observing the damage to the vehicle,” police said.
The detectives will present details from their investigation to the Fairfax County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for possible charges, police said, adding that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
