Fairfax Station Man Killed in Route 1 Crash; 3 Year-Old Involved Safe
Springfield man apprehended on multiple charges, including manslaughter

Media outlets are reporting that the man charged in the crash, Carlos Sanchez-Ramos, was in the country illegally. Sanchez-Ramos was deported in 2004 to his native Honduras but, according to a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he had re-entered illegally in the interim.
Sanchez-Ramos had also been arrested previously for drunken driving.

The crash yesterday which closed Route 1 for approximately four hours killed 54 year-old Paul Krause of Fairfax Station.

According to Fairfax County police, Krause was driving his Ford Fusion in the northbound lane of Route 1 at approximately 5:20 p.m. when it was struck by a 1994 Honda traveling in the same direction. The collision sent Krause’s car into the southbound lane where it struck an oncoming Mercedes (pictured above).
Police say the driver of the Honda, 33 year-old Carlos Sanchez-Ramos of Springfield, was driving while intoxicated. Sanchez-Ramos had two passengers in the vehicle, a three year-old child and a 31 year-old male. After the crash Sanchez-Ramos fled on foot but was apprehended nearby. The three year-old did not sustain any injuries. The 31 year-old sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hosital.
The occupants of the Mercedes were a 77 year-old man and a 73 year-old woman. They were taken by ground transport to INOVA Fairfax with non life-threatening injuries.
Krause was taken by Medi-Vac to INOVA Fairfax where he was pronounced dead at 7:44 p.m.
Sanchez-Ramos is being charged was charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, driving on an alcohol-related revoked license, child endangerment and two counts of felony hit and run.

A three car accident at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Route 1 has sent four people to the hopsital, according to Lt. L.B. Gamble, Assistant Commander of Traffic with the Fairfax County Police.
One of the victims was taken by Medivac to INOVA Fairfax in serious condition. The others were taken by ground transport with undetermined injuries. Three males and one female were injured.
Preliminary indications are that the vehicles involved were traveling in the north and south bound lanes of Route 1 when they collided.
Route 1 has been closed since the crash and is expected to remain shut down between Fairfax County Parkway and Telegraph Road until at least 9:30.
Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of the accident at 5:30 to call 703-691-2131.
