South County Chronicle to Close

Lorton Patch has learned that The Chronicle Newspapers has ceased operations effective immediately. Based in Springfield, The Chronicle was the publisher of three monthly newspapers including The South County Chronicle.

In a letter to staff, publisher Lowell Curtis cited a struggling economy as the primary reason for the decision.

The Chronicle has been a fixture in the community for several years, and was known for its strong editorial page. Curtis had recently been recognized by the Virginia Press Association for his editorial writing. Page designer Kimberly R. Proffitt was also recognized in the advertising category.
