"Zero. If I have someone special in my life, I want them to always feel like they're special. That one special person would be special every day of the year, not just on Valentine's Day," Karen said.

Catherine: "Nothing. I wouldn't celebrate a day just because Hallmark told me to."

Alvaro Bustillos was with his girlfriend Kelly James at  in Lorton.

"You've got to find that happy medium of not spending too much or too little. My max right now, with my current financial situation as a struggling student, is, I'd say, about $50," said Bustillos.

Kelly: "I haven't really thought about it, but I don't think it's the price that's important. I think you can do stuff without it being super expensive."

Chris and Lori Luhrman have been married for almost five years. The couple are visiting from Blacksburg and spoke with Patch while sipping Caribou Coffee.

"Sometimes we do cards. Maybe we did a little more in the beginning, but we'll probably do cards again this year," said Lori.

Chris: "Probably only $40 or so. We like to celebrate our relationship on more than just Valentine's Day. It feels like it's required, so, we celebrate, but not any more than we would every few months."

Kevin and Heather Beatty of Fort Belvoir have been married for nine years.

"My birthday is on the 22nd, so Valentine's Day doesn't really matter to me. I just think that it's an excuse for people to spend money," Heather said.

Kevin: "Usually it's $50 and card. It's just not a big one for us."
