Whiz Kid of the Week: Sobi Abbasi

Accomplished artist, future doctor

This week's Whiz Kid is Sobi Abbasi. The senior at South County Secondary School recently won a $1,000 scholarship at the Regional Art Competition.

Sobi’s project was inspired by the Gulf Oil Spill of last year. He was initially inspired by the environmental disaster when it happened, but his Computer Graphics teacher Bob Christie helped Sobi flesh out his ideas about it. Be sure to check out Sobi’s work above.

After Sobi graduates from high school in June, he will attend Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond to major in pre-med and eventually become an oncologist, much like his uncle. Sobi decided to pursue a career medicine after seeing his father Rashid survive a bout with cancer. Sobi lives with his father, his mother Saima and his sister Sarrah.
