Wanted Driver Arrested After Hit-And-Run With Stolen Vehicle: Police

After responding to a call, officers determined a man was the driver wanted in a hit-and-run crash that injured a woman.

YORKSHIRE, VA — A Woodbridge man wanted in a Yorkshire hit-and-run has been arrested, according to Prince William County Police.

Around 1:47 p.m. Monday, police had responded to an unconscious person report at the Bayvue Apartments in the 1300 block of E. Longview Dr. in Woodbridge. Officers found the person, who regained consciousness and pushed an officer while attempting to flee. Officers detained him not far away, but police say he provided false identifying information.

Police determined the man was wanted in the March 18 hit-and-run crash with a stolen vehicle that injured another driver. Jaquan Malik Fitchett, 27, of Woodbridge was arrested and charged with two counts of felony hit and run, one count of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny, and one count of driving on a revoked license. From Monday's encounter with police, he was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, false ID to a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, identity theft and possession of schedule I/II drug. He is being held without bond.

The hit-and-run happened around 7:24 a.m. on March 18 in the area of Yorkshire Lane near Old Centreville Road. Police believe the driver sideswiped one vehicle before striking another head on. A 48-year-old woman driving the second struck vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the suspect driver was using a stolen vehicle.

Following the investigation, police obtained warrants for Fitchett. He remained wanted until Monday's arrest, as police were not able to locate him.
