Man Strangles Family Member, Assaults Cop In Bristow: Police

A man was arrested after strangling a family member and then assaulting a cop at a home in Bristow, say Prince William County Police.

BRISTOW, VA—A man was arrested Thursday, March 28, after strangling a family member and assaulting a cop at a home in the 12900 block of Ness Hollow Court, according to Prince William County Police. Michael Braid Hooks, 51, of the aforementioned address, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction, strangulation and domestic assault and battery.

Around 3:30 p.m., police responded to the area for a reported domestic incident. They found that Hooks had been involved in an argument with a 17-year-old that escalated, after which the boy was pushed down and then was grabbed around the neck when as he tried to get back on his feet.

They separated, and the teen left the home to contact police. Hooks was detained shortly thereafter but while being escorted out of the home, he kicked an officer in the leg and began resisting arrest. A struggled ensued before he finally was subdued. Minor injuries were reported.
