Monument Coffee Roasters has 12 more days to reach its fundraising goal and become Manassas’ first coffee roaster business.

The company, which distributes roasted coffee beans through its website as well as local community events and farmer’s markets, began a Kickstarter campaign in August to raise $5,000 toward building the a Manassas roastery. So far, the company has raised $1,100 of its goal.

Hailing from Oregon, co-founders Alycia and Ryan Otte are committed to using fair trade practices and single origin varieties of coffee exclusively from high altitude regions of the world.

“The coffee roasting industry is still young in Northern Virginia,” Alycia Otte says in the team’s Kickstarter video. “So to be able to cultivate this culture here and show what it’s like to have hand-roasted, quality coffee is something we are thrilled to be involved in.”

Backers will receive assorted ‘swag’ like bags of Monument coffee, specialty mugs, travel bags and vacuum-sealed coffee containers. Customers can also join Monument’s Coffee of the Month club to receive freshly roasted coffee delivered to their doors twice a month.
