5K Literacy Run/Walk Still Seeking Participants

Kindergarten registration, 5K run/walk, Kids' Literacy Run and health and wellness fair all planned for May 5 in Manassas Park.

Manassas Park teachers are still looking for people to pound the pavement in the annual Cougar Literacy Run/Walk on May 5.

Proceeds from the event are used to buy books for elementary school students.

Applications for registration must be postmarked on or before Sunday to receive the $20 pre-registration rate and a guaranteed limited-edition race shirt.  Late registration is just $5 more.

An applicant will receive an email confirmation if an email address is provided.

Race-day registration is from 7 to 7:50 a.m. on the day of the race. The actual race begins at 7:59 a.m.

 At 9 a.m., awards will be given in four categories:

  • Under 18 Male
  • Under 18 Female
  • Over 18 Male
  • Over 18 Female

 The Kids' Literacy Run starts at 10 a.m. and is only open to Manassas Park and Cougar Elementary School students and their families.

Kindergarten Registration and the annual Health and Wellness fair is also planned for May 5 from 9:30 to 2 p.m.

 To register for Kindergarten in September, a child must be 5 years old by Sept. 30.

To register, parents must bring the child’s original birth certificate and, if possible, the child's social security card.

 Proof of Manassas Park residency, such as a driver’s license, vehicle registration, tax bill or water bill must also be provided.

 Additionally, proof of a recent physical exam and immunization must be provided.

Children must have the following vaccinations to register for Kindergarten:

2 Varicella

2 Mumps

4 DPT (one on or after the fourth birthday)

4 polio (one at 12 months or older and one prior to Kindergarten.

3 Hepatitis B.
