Letter to Editor: Cougar Swimmers Compete in Diving, Swimming Championship
Coaches write that swimmers had a proud showing at the three-day event in Christiansburg, VA

The Manassas Park High School (MPHS) Cougar Swim Team competed in the VHSL AA & A Swimming and Diving State Championship meet on Thursday, Feb. 9 to Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, VA.
During the preliminary session, swimmers were able to advance to Finals if they placed in the top 16. Even the Cougars did not make it past prelims, the team was very excited and proud to have two freshmen qualify and compete in the state meet in the team’s first year.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Niecy Lindsay placed thirty-fourth in the state with a personal best time by 3.02 seconds at 2:23.76 and Shaina Williams placed thirty-sixth with a time of 2:32.74.

The MPHS Swim team has completed its first season with great success and is looking forward for the years to come. The coaching staff plans to have open swim session during the off season and is encouraging their swimmers to be involved in either year-round clubs or summer league teams so that the Cougars can gear up for their second season and advance more swimmers to the State meet.
Both Coaches Sam Olbes and Kim O’Brien are very proud for the continuing accomplishments their team has made during its first season. It is a program that has made a positive impact on the school and the community.
