Manassas Park's Varsity Soccer Team Does It Again

Manassas Park High's boys varsity soccer team made magic happen again this year when it captured its second straight Group A State title Saturday. 

Manassas Park High defeated Northhampton High School, 4-3.

Player Silas Carden scored three of Manassas Park's four goals while Jeremias Barrios scored one.

Linell Carden, Silas' mother and his father,Travis,were there to cheer on their son and the team in a unique way: airhorns.

"The horns were reserved for state semi (finals) and finals.  We were fully stocked!  It was a bit challenging to handle the umbrellas, video camera, pom poms and horns, but we managed," Linell Carden said. "(We) often had help from some of our fellow fans that sat close by.  My husband and I rotated 'noise makers,' being sure to sound off after each goals and a few times in between.  We didn't have quite as many fans as some of the more local teams, so we needed to improvise."

In the regular season, she was sure to yell, "That's my boy!" "Yeah, baby!" and "I like that!" to make sure the team knew they were there supporting them Linell Carden said. 

The nine senior soccer players missed theirthis morning to play in the noon match at Radford University, but administrators arranged for them to hold a second graduation ceremony of their own, scheduled for 9 p.m.

Winning a state soccer title followed by a special commencement is becoming a bit of a tradition for Manassas Park High School. 

on June 13 when the triumphant team returned home to Manassas Park to graduate as a team.

"We are extremely proud of Silas, and thankful to God, for giving him the strength to make a strong finish," Linell Carden said.   "It is a joy to see him having fun, doing something that he really loves to do and be a part of. 

The team is truly a family, on and off the field.  We especially love to watch them take a knee before each and every game to offer up prayers, as a team.  We will miss the Manassas Park unity, but look forward to what else is in store."
