Manassas Park Stands Behind Marshall in GOP Primary

Del. Bob Marshall received most of Manassas Park's votes in Tuesday's GOP Primary.

Manassas Park voters supported Virginia Del. Bob Marshall in a large way in the GOP Primary election Tuesday. 

Marshall, who represents Manassas Park City and parts of Manassas in the Virginia House of Delegates, captured 41 percent of the Manassas Park vote; more than the overall winner, former Gov. George Allen.

The votes in Manassas Park are totally Marshall received just 6 percent of the total Virginia vote in the GOP Primary.

Allen snapped up a little over 40 percent of the vote in Manassas Park and 61 percent total.

Jamie Radtke was third out of the four candidates in Manassas Park at 15 percent while E.W Jackson got a little over 2 percent of the vote in the city.

By day’s end Tuesday, 196 of the 5,709 active voters in Manassas Park had cast ballots. There are 6,817 total voters in Manassas Park, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections website.

Before the elections were final Tuesday, Marshall said that he thought his constituents would support him, that is, if they knew he was seeking the position.

“The perception is, a lot of people don’t know there is a campaign, we had sent these automated calls out; at least a third of people when they were talking to me said, ‘I didn’t know the election was coming up,’" said Marshall. "Unlike the presidential debate, there were no real debates. There were forums that the Republican Party but on.”

The forums were different from the presidential debates, where people were going after each other, he said. The forums were more “indirect,” he added.
