Yoga for Preschoolers Comes to Manassas Park

You are never too young to be,"centered."

A form of exercise that has long helped many adults to relax and become stronger beings is now available for children in Manassas Park.

The began offering the Yoga for Preschool class this spring.

The class is taught on Mondays from 11:45 to 12:15 p.m.— short enough to hold an active 4-year-old’s attention and long enough to be of benefit.

Yoga can help children learn to relax, concentrate and reduce impulsiveness.  The meditation and breathing techniques can help children better manage emotional upsets and cope with stressful events, community center staff said.

 Like adult Yoga, the concept of Yoga for young children has been around for years, but is now widely available to a diverse group of children, according to Yoga instructors.

 Research on the benefits of Yoga for children is limited, but a small study found some participants with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD, showed improvements in certain traits of the condition such as restlessness and impulsiveness, community center staff said.

 Yoga for Preschool in Manassas Park is open to children ages 3-5.

The price is $35 for Manassas Park Community Center members, $40 for residents and $45 for non residents of the city. A drop-in rate is also available.
