100-Degree Heat In NoVA, DC Prompts Warnings: NWS
As the heat index climbs to 105, National Weather Services is advising people to stay indoors, hydrate and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
VIRGINIA — National Weather Service issued a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. Friday for Washington, D.C., and most of Northern Virginia.
The day will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high temperature near 100 degrees and a index making if feel like it's 108, according to the NWS.
Scattered showers and thunderstorm are expected to move through the region Friday evening, switching over to isolated showers between 2 a.m and 4 p.m. Temperatures will drop to around 75, under mostly cloudy skies, according to NWS' forecast. There will be a 30 percent chance of precipitation.

Although isolated showers are expected to continue through the morning on Saturday, the thermometer will climb to near 95 degrees with a heat index of 105.
The rainy weather is expected to continue through Sunday and into next week, when high temperatures are expected to remain in the low 90s.

"In most cases, thunderstorms that occur from Friday to Sunday will last only a small part of the day," according to AccuWeather's forecast. "Most of the storms will erupt in the afternoon heat and decline after sunset. Those with outdoor activities with the extended holiday weekend should check the hourly forecast and radar to keep abreast of changing conditions."

NWS released the following precautions about how Virginians can stay safe during Friday's hot and humid weather:
"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.
"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1."
The following is the National Weather Services' seven-day forecast for the Baltimore -Washington area:
- Friday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then isolated showers between 2am and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Saturday: Isolated showers between 8am and 11am, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 105. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
- Saturday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Sunday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
- Monday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 92. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
- Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
- Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
