80-Year-Old Vienna Man Charged In Fatal Pedestrian Crash In McLean
An 80-year-old Vienna man has been charged in an Aug. 12 crash in McLean that killed a woman as she was in a crosswalk, police said.

MCLEAN, VA —An 80-year-old Vienna man has been charged in an Aug. 12 crash in McLean that killed a woman as she was in a crosswalk, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Police said Gamaathige Desoya was served a summons on Friday for making an improper turn and failure to yield for a pedestrian in a crosswalk from a deadly crash on Kirby Road in McLean on the morning of Aug. 12.
Brigitte Forster, 86, of McLean was within a crosswalk around 6 a.m. on Aug. 12 when the driver of a 2009 Toyota Sienna, Desoya, was turning left onto northbound Kirby Road from the parking lot of the Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean, according to police.

Desoya cut the turn short and then entered the southbound lanes, striking Forster in the crosswalk, police said.
Forster was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Desoya remained at the scene of the crash, according to police.

Excessive speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, police said Friday.
