DC Man Faces Weapons Charge Following Arrest In Tysons: Police

A District man arrested in Tysons for larceny was in possession of a firearm reported stolen from Maryland, according to police.

MCLEAN, VA — An 18-year-old Washington, D.C. man is facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen firearm, after being arrested Sunday evening for stealing items from a business in Tysons, according to authorities.

Investigators with the Fairfax County Police Department's Tysons Urban Team were alerted to a larceny that had just taken place in the 1900 block of Chain Bridge Road, according to the incident report. Loss protection officers told detectives that they had seen a man concealing items before leaving the business.

During the the arrest, detectives determined that the suspect, identified as Makio Smith, was in possession of a firearm that had been stolen from Prince George's County, Maryland, according to police.

Smith was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, a concealed weapon violation, grand larceny, petit larceny, larceny with intent to distribute, conspiracy to commit a felony, and felony facemask, according to FCPD. He was then held without bond.

Smith was arraigned Monday morning in Fairfax County General District Court and had a bond hearing scheduled for 8:31 a.m. on Tuesday, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2026. He remains in custody.

The receiving and concealing a stolen firearm and wearing a mask in certain places are Class 6 felonies. If convicted on either of these charges, Smith faces a potential sentence of one to five years in prison or up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.

In addition, the grand larceny and the intent to sell stolen property of more than $1,000 in value charges are unclassified felonies, which could mean additional prison or jail time if Smith is convicted, under the Virginia law.
