DC Rapper Noah Settles' Probation For Tysons Shooting In Jeopardy Over Marijuana Use

Rapper Noah Settles, known as No Savage, served prison time for firing a gun in Tysons Corner. His probation is at risk over marijuana use.

TYSONS, VA — After serving three years in prison for firing a gun in Tysons Corner Center mall in June 2022, rapper Noah Settles of Washington, D.C., has jeopardized his 10 years of probation by regularly smoking marijuana and failing to complete substance abuse treatment, a report said.

Settles, 26, a rapper known by the stage name “No Savage,” pleaded guilty in to four felony charges in February 2023, including three counts of maliciously discharging a firearm in an occupied building and using a firearm in commission of a felony.

Settles also received 10 years of probation and is not allowed to return to the mall. He faced up to 33 years in prison, according to the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office.

The shooting occurred on Saturday, June 18, 2022, over Father’s Day weekend. No one was hit by the bullets, but three people were injured during the mall’s evacuation, the prosecutor said.

On Friday, Settles was in court as his attorney asked the judge to remove the condition that the rapper cannot use marijuana. He had also violated probation restrictions by traveling out of state to perform.

“That music scene and social scene Noah has grown up with is infused with marijuana use,” the defense lawyer said, NBC Washington reported.

“You’re asking me to let him smoke marijuana because he’s rapper, even though he hasn’t done the substance abuse treatment that was ordered?” the judge asked.

For now, Settles remains free while his attorney and a probation officer try to craft a plan the judge will approve, according to NBC.

Tysons Center Shooting

During court hearings, video footage from mall surveillance cameras and bystanders’ phones showed Settles getting into a fight with another group of people, fleeing briefly, then turning back to fire three shots by a mall kiosk. Settles turned himself into the Fairfax County Police Department on June 22, 2022.

The people who fought before Settles fired the shots were believed to be members of the 37th Street Crew and the Simple City Crew, both from Southeast D.C., Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said at a news conference on June 23, 2022.

Settles, who is affiliated with the 37th Street Crew, displayed a firearm during the initial scuffle but did not fire any shots, police said. A few minutes later, also on the second floor of the mall, Settles took out his gun again and fire three shots in the crowded mall, according to Davis.
