UPDATE: Fairfax County Public Schools New Weather Announcement for Saturday Afternoon

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- (UPDATE 12 noon) Activities in Fairfax County Public Schools or on school grounds scheduled for 2 p.m. or later Saturday will proceed as scheduled, Fairfax County Public Schools announced at 12 noon.

Fairfax County Public Schools has canceled all activities scheduled in FCPS schools or on school grounds Saturday that take place before 2 p.m. due to the wintry weather.

Activities scheduled for 2 p.m. or later Saturday will proceed as scheduled, according to FCPS. Conditions will be reassessed by noon if further changes are needed, the school system announce Saturday.

The area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service until 1 p.m. Saturday, with up to 3 inches of snow expected to blanket Northern Virginia.

VDOT is asking residents to stay off the roads. "Even a dusting will turn into ice when temps are this low," VDOT said. "Avoid traveling to points south & east of NOVA."
