Flood Watch In NoVa, DC Due To Heavy Showers, Thunderstorms: NWS

Thunderstorms may bring up to 4 inches of rain, so the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for D.C. and Northern VA.

VIRGINIA — National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Wednesday for most of the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area, including Northern Virginia. The watch will be in effect from noon through Wednesday evening. Excessive rainfall — up to 4 inches is possible in some areas — may cause flash floods.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the metro-D.C. region on Wednesday morning, switching over to showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m., according to the NWS forecast. The high temperature will be near 84 degrees, with south winds of 6 to 10 mph.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water
crossings may be flooded," according to the NWS forecast.
