Giant Manager Wins Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Award

The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce annually  honors community and business leaders for their outstanding service to McLean. Seventeen men and women, our neighbors, received awards in a recent ceremony for their amazing work. McLean Patch is profiling each winner.

Chairman’s Award -  Rick Makely, Giant Food Store, McLean

Rick Makely is the General Manager of the Giant Food Store in  McLean.  In this role Rick manages all facets of the operation, and leads more  than 200 associates serving the McLean Community. Rick and staff have brought new concepts to food shopping industry and  celebrated the 50  years of serving the McLean Community with a total renovation of the McLean store.   Rick has been with Giant more than 36 years and has held many positions through out his career within the organization.  The McLean Giant leads all the Ahold USA supermarkets in annual sales.  Rick serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of  the McLean Chamber of Commerce Board and as Board President for his home owners association in Reston Town Center.

 Rick has been married to Cheryl since 1982 and has 2 daughters Jessica & Chelsea currently residing in Colorado.  Rick is a proud new grandfather to Taj Alexander Simon born 9-15-11. 

In 2010 Makely and Giant won the Innovative Business of Year Award.
