Grease Accumulation On Patio Grill Causes McLean House Fire: Officials
A house fire in the McLean area on June 2 was caused by the ignition of accumulated grease on a patio grill, county fire officials said.

MCLEAN, VA — A house fire in the McLean area on June 2 was caused by the ignition of accumulated grease on a patio grill, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said Thursday.
The accidental fire, at a home in the 6000 block of Chesterbook Road, caused about $483,000 in damage, according to the fire department.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, the Fairfax County Fire Department and crews from the Arlington County Fire Department were dispatched to the home for a report of a fire.

When the units arrived on the scene, they found a large volume of fire coming from the back of the two-story, single-family home and extending up to the attic, the fire department said. Fire crews worked quickly to contain and extinguish the fire.
There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries, according to the fire department.

Four occupants were home at the time of the fire. All safely evacuated the home and called 911. Smoke alarms were present, but the fire department said it is not known if they activated after the fire extended to the house.
Fire investigators determined that the fire originated on the back patio and was caused by the ignition of accumulated grease on the grill.
The four occupants were displaced from the home due to the fire. Red Cross assistance was offered but declined by the occupants, the fire department said.
