High Winds Knocked Out Power Saturday to More Than 3,500 Homes in Northern Virginia
The Northern Virginia region is under a Wind Advisory through Sunday night as a cold front moves through.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Downed limbs on power lines caused by high winds Saturday are the likely culprit for knocking out power to more than 3,600 homes across Northern Virginia, according to Dominion Virginia Power. Most power was restored by Saturday night, but 769 homes in Loudoun were still without power as of about 6 a.m. Sunday.
The utility company's map showed outages sprinkled across the region, including in the following areas Saturday afternoon:
- Loudoun County: 2,650 (mainly in the Leesburg area)
- McLean-Great Falls area: 352 (plus another 77 in central McLean)
- Fairfax Station: 157

Fairfax Station area -- power was estimated to be back on between 6-11 p.m., according to Dominion:

Power in McLean was expected to be restored between 5-10 p.m.

Area in Great Falls-McLean, power was expected to be restored between 4-9 p.m.:

Some 2,203 homes were without power in the Leesburg area, where power is expected to be restored between 7 p.m. and midnight. Nearly 800 homes were still without power as of early Sunday:

Winds were clocked at 53 MPH at Dulles Washington International Airport Saturday as a cold front moves through the area, taking temperatures from balmy to downright cold. Highs Sunday are expected to reach in the upper 40s to low 50s, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The region is under a Wind Advisory through Sunday night at midnight and the Potomac River is under a Gale Warning until 6 a.m. Monday, meaning inexperienced recreational boaters should stay off the water, the NWS warned.
